The 2025 Met Gala red carpet was jam-packed with stars last night, but one notable absence? That would be none other than Beyoncé, who sadly had to skip the festivities and RSVP no to fashion’s big night out.
Why did Bey miss the 2025 Met Gala? In all likelihood, it’s because of her Cowboy Carter tour, which only kicked off a week ago. People reported as much, saying, “Beyoncé likely missed the star-studded annual fashion event because of her Cowboy Carter tour, which kicked off at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on April 28.”
Beyoncé is scheduled to be in California for five straight shows in the city before leaving, and she’s only played three of the five so far. Even so, in a few days, she’ll be in Chicago starting May 9. (And that’s a lot of cross-country travel as is!) A New York City event is not exactly convenient mid-tour.
Even so, fans were holding out hope. Bey last showed up at the Met Gala in 2016, when she arrived looking like an absolute queen in Givenchy.
The singer’s Cowboy Carter tour is hot off the heels of her winning Album of the Year at the Grammys, as well as Best Country Album. During her speech for the latter, Beyoncé said, “I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just wanna encourage people to do what they’re passionate about and to stay persistent. Wow, I’d like to thank my beautiful family, all of the artists that were collaborators. Thank you. This wouldn’t have been this album without you. I’d like to thank God again and my fans, and I still am in shock, so thank you so much for this honor.”
